I missed out every Pokémon game after Platinum since buying a new system was just too much for me to afford as a child. I gather from your username that you’re a fan of the franchise - do you have any suggestions for how to get back into the series from where I left off most cost-effectively while retaining the essential functions? Obviously, some online servers and events for certain gameplay elements are no longer available for cartridge gameplay.
Pokemon is one game where you won’t miss much through emulation. They did occasionally play around with hardware gimmicks for a few bonus minigames or whatever, but all of that stuff is skippable and unimportant to the core gameplay.
You should checkout retro achievements. I just finished mastering Pokemon Red & Blue and even finished a professor oak challenge run. Completely free and you can even use retro arch (the front end for a ton of different emulators) on your mobile! Feel free to pm me with any questions.
Well, he’s 4 so he doesn’t really care about Fortnite , Minecraft or Roblox yet. Also the tiny retro handheld console I have is easier on his little hands.
The DSi is actually fairly affordable and easily the most useful (pre 3DS) since it can be hacked with just an SD card and 10 minutes of your time. I bought mine for 30 bucks and got an extended battery plus a usb charging cable for another 5. It holds up well for what it is.
Hey, maybe you have some insight. I have a 3rd hand ds 3d (got it from a neighbor who got it from someone else and so on…) that is “locked”? Do you know how to completely reset it to a factory state? My charger is packed in a box somewhere unfortunately so I can’t tell you the exact issue, but basically I want to have a “new” install and make our own account on it since we can’t currently
You can factory reset it by following this guide if you can still enter the settings menu. If you mean locked as in bricked then things are a bit more complicated. If you want to put custom firmware on it to run pirated games and/or emulate games for other systems then this guide is of great help.
It isn’t bricked. I was able to see some videos and pictures the old owners took with it and some things like that. It’s been quite a while since I tried messing with it so I don’t remember the specifics
The DS is still expensive today 😭
Free if you emulate 🧠
Many of the best DS games are built around the hardware in ways that make it difficult to get the full experience from trying to emulate.
There’s hardware made to emulate that too, should you go that route. Not free though.

Everytime it was a “Wow. That’s neat!”
Proceeds to never do it again

I’ve discovered this recently and am loving playing Mario 3D land with my son.
I play it on my laptop, but I’m happy to hear that children are acceptable hardware emulation devices
Way more expensive than a DS though
Like a real life Tamagotchi. You mean you have to feed it every day?
Can easily play Doom on it.

The thing you emulate it on is not free. The internet you used was not free. Your time is not free.
Emulate it on a free government phone
Free McDonald’s wifi
Then why is it called “free time?” 🤔
Checkmate.
Go gettem kolanski, fuck His ass up.
Oh no
Anyway

you’ll have to reset the parental controls (mkey): https://wiki.hacks.guide/wiki/3DS:Remove_Parental_Controls
then you’ll be able to erase system data. Don’t bother with the “remove pin” option it is broken
Thank you very much! I’ll give that a try when I can get it charged up
