Whenever I hear anyone refer to women as a females this is instantly what pops in my head:

Some commenters were unable to recognize the conventional meaning is inoffensive. They wanted to oppose misogyny by turning it into a dirty word (thus internalizing unimplied sexism into a general word for the entire gender). Hard to reason them out of that conundrum.
